Among the openings on a house, the garage door is often the largest, and in a hurricane it can be a weak spot. Salt air wears on springs, rollers and hardware, especially close to the water. Most homes in Bluffton, Okatie and Hardeeville were built since 2000, so plenty of their doors and openers are getting older, and the newer 55+ communities add golf cart garages to the mix.
Ask whether the door is rated for wind, and if it isn't, whether a bracing kit is an option. The openings section of what to book before hurricane season explains why it matters.
Before the new door goes up, look for the wind rating label. If nobody can tell you the rating, assume there isn't one. And have them check the springs, because salt eats those too.
Based in the Lowcountry
High-cycle torsion springs get a specific mention at the Hilton Head branch of Precision Garage Door Service on Oak Park Drive, which covers the island and Bluffton. The rest is repairs, opener replacements, and new doors and openers, backed by the national brand it belongs to.
Roll-up storage doors are on the commercial side at Coastline Overhead Door on Argent Boulevard in Ridgeland, while the home side covers repairs, new doors, springs, panels, tracks, sensors, openers, insulation and weather stripping, plus a maintenance membership. Its website calls it family owned, counts upward of 20 years of experience, and lists towns from Bluffton and Hilton Head to Beaufort and St. Helena.
Corpus Christi Place is the Hilton Head address for Elite Overhead Garage Doors, which installs and repairs residential and commercial doors on the island. Broken springs, damaged panels and opener problems are the common repairs, with same-day service advertised, and the commercial side includes dock levelers.
The only authorized Raynor dealer in the area, by its own claim, Hilton Head Garage Doors installs residential doors from a base on Browns Cove Road in Ridgeland. It also sells LiftMaster openers and parts, puts in garage door screens, and services all makes.
Sundays are off at AAA Overhead Door, a Christian company policy that founder Mark Rogers says has held since day one. The garage door shop is on Coastal Drive off Highway 278 in Bluffton, opens at 8 on weekdays and offers limited emergency service on Saturdays.
Fire door drop tests, dock equipment and garage flood vents are on the list at Overhead Door Company of the Lowcountry, a Beaufort dealer on B. E.
Lady's Island is home base for Action Services, which sells, installs and repairs Amarr garage doors and openers. Prompt service gets a mention from reviewers.
A TruTeam company, by its own account, Valley Insulation installs from a location on Speedway Boulevard in Hardeeville. Attic, ceiling, floor and crawl space insulation are the main work, for remodels, new builds and commercial jobs, but Google also lists garage door installs and keypads, closet shelving, bathroom hardware and gutter cleaning.
Installation work booked through the Bluffton store on Gateway Village Road is what Home Services at The Home Depot covers, from flooring, carpet and countertops to cabinet refacing, backsplashes, blinds and attic insulation. Its Google profile also lists bathroom remodels, windows and doors, custom closets, garage storage, laundry rooms and mudrooms, plus HVAC, plumbing, electrical and garage door categories.
Serves the area from nearby
Over 30 years in Savannah, by its own account, Mo Better Garage handles garage door maintenance, repair, replacement and new installs from a shop on Commercial Drive. Its website shows sister locations across Georgia and Florida and lists hurricane-rated doors, springs, rollers, panels, seals and openers.
Armor Screen storm systems and hurricane garage doors are the storm side of OCS Garage Doors & Hurricane Protection, a Beaufort company that dates itself to 2000. Most of the work is garage doors: installs, repairs, springs, cables, openers and annual maintenance, plus design consultations.
Part of the national Mr. Electric franchise, the Low Country branch has no storefront listed, and its website points to Savannah, Georgia. It advertises 24-hour service and the Neighborly Done Right Promise, with panel upgrades and repairs, wiring, EV chargers, inspections, power restoration, fans and fixtures on its list.
