Windows and Doors · the Lowcountry
Hilton Head's houses and villas from the 1970s and 1980s have mostly had their original windows replaced, while Bluffton homes built in the 2000s are trading out their first builder windows. Wind-driven rain is the local test, and the install matters as much as the window. In Beaufort's historic district, the Review Board reviews window changes on contributing buildings, and old wood windows often call for a repair specialist.
Ask whether the windows and doors carry wind and impact ratings for your location, and how the installer seals the opening. Protecting every opening can count toward a state grant; see SC Safe Home.
Watch how they flash the opening. The window is a factory product; the flashing gets done in your driveway, and that's where water finds its way in.
