Contractors in Hilton Head Island
459 contractors serve Hilton Head Island. 360 are based in town.
Hilton Head was mostly Gullah communities, farmland and timber until 1956, when the bridge to the mainland opened and Sea Pines got its master plan. The Town incorporated in 1983. (Hilton Head Island Visitor and Convention Bureau)
Most of the island was built from the 1970s through the 1990s, and fewer than half its homes are detached houses. About a third are villas and condos, where a regime or POA may handle the roof and the siding. The Gullah neighborhoods on the north end, like Squire Pope and Marshland, go back to the late 1860s and predate all of it.
Two things shape a lot of jobs here. Many neighborhoods are gated, so a contractor needs a pass, and exterior work in the planned communities often needs design review first. And many homes are second homes or rentals, so work gets scheduled around guests and long absences. Permits go through the Town's Community Development office.
