Large parts of rural Jasper County outside the BJWSA service area rely on septic tanks, and so do many homes on Lady's Island, where the 2019 plan set no requirement to connect to public sewer. Older houses around Ridgeland and manufactured homes on rural lots often have systems nobody has mapped in years. Heavy summer rains can leave a drainfield soaked, and a soaked drainfield doesn't drain.
Ask whether a pumping includes a look at the baffles and the drainfield, and get a written report. If you don't know where the tank is, ask them to locate and mark it so you have a record.
Know where the tank and drainfield are before you plant, pave or park on them. Tree roots and truck tires are hard on both.

New septic systems and drain fields make up much of the work reviewers describe at Washington Septic Tank Services on Pine Grove Road in Beaufort, along with pipe repairs and a crew that responds fast, shows up on time and cleans up the yard. Google lists septic installation, drain cleaning, sewer repair and outdoor plumbing repair.
Bushhogging, equipment hauling and rock and dirt delivery come with the backhoe side of Landon's Backhoe and Septic, on Mroz Road in Beaufort. On the septic side it installs and pumps tanks and puts in drain fields.
Barefoot Alley in Bluffton is the base for Collins Septic Tank Service, which pumps and installs tanks, installs and repairs drain and leach fields, and does backflow testing, sewer pumps and sewer line installs, jetting and sludge hauling. Its site promises service within 24 hours and free estimates.
Since 1965, by its own account, Degler Waste Services has handled septic work from Okatie Highway in Ridgeland, and the list has grown well past tanks.
