Wells and Water Treatment · the Lowcountry
Outside the BJWSA service area, much of unincorporated Jasper County gets its water from private wells drawing on the Floridan Aquifer. Older homes around Ridgeland and many manufactured homes on rural lots depend on a pump, a pressure tank and whatever treatment someone installed years ago. Well water can carry minerals, odor or bacteria that city water doesn't, and the only way to know is a test.
Ask for a lab water test before buying any treatment equipment, and ask what the system will cost to maintain each year. For a well pump, ask about the pressure tank and controls too, since they often fail first.
Get the water tested by someone who isn't selling the filter. Then you'll know if you're buying a fix or a guess.
