Golf carts are everyday transportation in a lot of communities here, from Sun City and Latitude Margaritaville to the gated golf neighborhoods of Bluffton and Hilton Head. On Daufuskie they are how people get around, and Haig Point bans gas-powered vehicles entirely. Salt air and damp garages are hard on batteries, terminals, wiring and the metal frame underneath.
Ask about battery type and age, especially on a used cart, and what the battery warranty covers. Find out whether they service carts on site or need to haul them in, and what that costs for a home on the islands.

Gas Club Car carts with fuel-injected engines, in four- and six-seat versions, make up the rental fleet at Mungeon Creek Retreat Golf Cart Rentals on Cooper River Landing Road, Daufuskie Island. Carts wait at the Melrose ferry landing or the county dock, or can be dropped at the house where renters are staying, and weekly rentals get the seventh day free.
Parts, sales and service for golf carts come out of a unit on Venture Drive in Bluffton. People who've bought from Icon Golf Cars of Bluffton talk about staff who answer every question, no-pressure sales, test drives, customization options and how the warranty was explained.
Every cart at Daufuskie Carts is electric, and its website claims it's the only all-electric rental fleet on the island. The Melrose Landing Road shop rents four- and six-seaters, daily or overnight, and has carts ready for arrivals at Freeport Marina, Melrose Landing and the ferries.

Club Car of Hilton Head works from Fording Island Road in Bluffton and covers Beaufort as well. The family-owned dealer, as it describes itself, sells new and pre-owned electric and gas Club Cars along with XRT utility vehicles and low-speed vehicles, and it says Club Car nominated it for Dealer of the Year.
Icon electric carts, plus service, parts and accessories, are the business at Icon Golf Cars of Hardeeville on Speedway Boulevard, which lists itself as an authorized Icon EV dealer. Buyers describe patient, responsive staff and a no-pressure purchase, and a few mention help getting the cart transported.
Just outside the Sun City Riverbend gate on Okatie Highway, LowCountry Golf Cars sells new, used and refurbished carts from Yamaha, Atlas, Denago, Star EV, Dach and PDG, plus utility carts and custom builds. Its service trucks pick up and return carts and fix them on site when they can, and purchased carts are delivered home.
Daufuskie Life splits its fleet two ways: electric four- and six-seaters for overnight rentals, delivered to the rental house, and gas four-seaters for day trips of up to eight hours, handed over at Melrose Landing or the County Dock. The family-run company on Haig Point Road also offers a water taxi and ground transportation, and drivers must hold a valid license.
E-Z-GO carts and Cushman utility vehicles are what E-Z-GO of Hilton Head sells from Sherington Drive in Bluffton, with a service center that works by appointment and parts kept in stock. Patient salespeople, fair pricing, refurbished carts and lithium battery options come up among buyers.
The Sutcliffe family has done business in Port Royal since 1955, starting out as a furniture store, according to the company's history page. These days Sutcliffe Golf Cars on Ribaut Road sells new Yamaha, Bintelli and Evolution carts, pre-owned models and carts it reconditions in house, along with accessories, service, rentals and financing.
Mobile golf cart repair is the core of GoGo Batteries, which comes to the driveway for battery replacement, lithium upgrades, charging system checks, wheels and tires and other repairs. The Okatie-based shop covers Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Beaufort, Callawassie Island and Hardeeville, offers financing through Synchrony, and its site mentions helping the Hardeeville Police Department switch to lithium batteries.
One Eleven Custom Carts sells custom golf carts from Ribaut Road in Port Royal and keeps Tuesday through Saturday hours. Buyers describe an easy, honest purchase and patient answers to their questions.
Lawn mowers and golf carts share space at O'Neill's Outdoor Power Equipment/Master of the Links on Red Cedar Street in Bluffton, a golf shop that also sells and repairs mowers and stocks landscaping supplies. Fair prices are what reviewers note.

Mark Kluttz runs Fripp Island Golf Cart Rental and lives on the island, according to its website, so problems get handled on the spot. The fleet is Yamaha carts painted in bright beach colors, and the business dates itself to 2012.
Rentals on Fripp Island and at the Hunting Island State Park campground are the specialty of We See’Um Golf Carts, based on Pike Drive on Fripp. Four-seaters and six-seat limo carts are delivered to the vacation spot and picked up afterward, and the owners rent vacation property as well.
Sea Island Carts on Chaplin Drive, St. Helena Island, claims to be the first dealership in South Carolina to carry ICON golf carts. It repairs all major brands and rents carts as well, and it's open Saturdays.

Local owners run Full Tilt Golf Cart Rentals on Fripp Island, the company states, from Tarpon Boulevard. Carts are dropped off wherever renters want them and picked up again, seven days a week.
An authorized E-Z-GO dealer and service center sits right on Fripp Island at Fripp Island Resort Carts on Tarpon Boulevard, which also claims to be the only rental company based on the island. Rentals include four-seat electric and gas carts, six-seat gas carts and new electric Liberty models, plus bikes and coolers, with delivery available.
