Ledger boards, flashing and fasteners are the parts of a deck that tend to fail, and they're the parts nobody looks at. Near the marsh and the beach, salt air speeds up corrosion on connectors and screws. Sun, rain and humidity work on the boards year round. Many elevated houses carry decks well off the ground, and HOAs and design review boards often have a say in materials and railings.
Ask how the ledger will be attached and flashed, what the connectors are rated for near salt water, and who pulls the permit. The paperwork side is in what your contractor's contract should say.
The ledger is where I'd look first. A deck that pulls away from a house usually let water in at that board for years before anyone noticed. Flashing over it is cheap, and leaving it out is not.

Part garden center, part landscaping company, The Green Thumb on Dillon Road dates itself to 2009 and also works in Bluffton. Besides selling plants and gifts at the store, it designs and builds landscapes, including walkways, retaining walls, fire pits, water features and decks, and handles lawn care, fertilizing, grub control, crape myrtle pruning and irrigation maintenance.
Tiki huts are the unusual half of the name at Hilton Head Decks and Tiki Huts, on Island Drive. The company builds wood and composite decks and tiki huts, repairs and adds onto existing decks, and lists custom pergolas, deck lighting, architectural drawings and maintenance service.
Power washing and staining wood is the whole idea at The Deck Guy, a locally owned Savannah company by its own description that also lists Daufuskie Island among the places it works. Decks, docks, fences, pergolas and trellises get washed and stained, and it cleans patios, driveways and siding too.
Resurfacing docks and decks is right in the name at Coastal Dock and Resurfacing, a marine contractor based in Port Royal that also covers Beaufort. The company builds, repairs and maintains docks, builds seawalls and does marine restoration for homes and commercial waterfront property, and it repairs, refinishes and paints decks as well.
Roof repairs, cabinet painting and drywall patches sit next to soft washing at Lowcountry Property Preservation on Towne Drive in Bluffton. Its list also includes roof inspections and installs, storm damage repair, gutter installation, skylights, door painting, carpentry, decks and siding.
Diamond Pools & Spas reviews dwell on pool renovations and the concrete and paver decks around them. The Executive Park Road company on Hilton Head Island designs and builds new residential and commercial pools, including fiberglass, and handles spa renovation, inspections and ongoing maintenance.
Daily progress updates, on-time work and polite crews come up in reviews of Beach House Construction, as do its bathroom, laundry room, siding and chimney jobs. The Bluffton remodeler leads with custom kitchens and also does bathrooms, room additions, custom cabinets and carpentry, windows and doors, siding and stucco, porches, decks and patios, flooring and interior painting.
Steel, wood and composite framing, waterproof decks and under-deck systems show how far into the deck trade Kamtreyurias Renovations goes. The Okatie-based company works with wood, composite and PVC decking, aluminum railing and low-voltage lighting, refinishes exotic wood, sands, stains and restores older decks, and builds pergolas.

From Old Place in Bluffton, the company builds custom pools and spas, screened porches, patio enclosures, paver patios, pool decks, pavilions, pergolas and outdoor kitchens, handling design, engineered plans and permitting itself.
Seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Kipar Construction Services takes on home repairs and property maintenance from Hidden Lakes Lane in Bluffton. Deck renovations and repairs lead the list, followed by pavers, masonry, carpentry, drywall, painting, pressure washing, drainage, landscaping and irrigation, and the website covers Hilton Head too.

The company builds and repairs docks, bulkheads, seawalls and bridges, installs and maintains boat lifts, and lists floating docks, boat launches, rip-rap and erosion control.
On Cardinal Road on Hilton Head Island, Robert's Done Right handles home repairs and improvements: drywall, painting, flooring, fans, plumbing fixtures, furniture assembly and remodeling, plus cabinet and deck work. Knowledgeable staff gets a nod in reviews.
Fences and decks, cabinetry, flooring, painting and kitchen and bath remodels are all on the list for Brads Construction, based on Oyster Bluff Boulevard in Beaufort. The owner, who writes in the first person on the listing, covers Bluffton and Hilton Head too, and some weekday hours stretch to 7:30 p.m. Fair pricing and solid workmanship come up in reviews.
Site planning comes first at LANDSource on May River Road in Bluffton, followed by landscape design, installation, irrigation and lighting. It also lays interlocking pavers for patios, walks and steps, and Google files it as a deck builder.
Composite decks, fiber cement siding and exterior trim are the core of Colonial Construction Services, which lists Hilton Head Island as its service area though its own description points to exterior remodeling in Guyton, Georgia. It also does paving, outdoor living projects, bathroom remodels and siding for businesses.
Ceiling textures stand out on the list at Big John's Painting on Honey Hill Circle in Ridgeland: knockdown, orange peel, acoustic ceilings and textured ceiling removal. It also does interior and exterior painting, concrete staining, power washing, and drywall and deck work.
Generator stands and enclosures are an unusual line item for a fence company, and Property Preservation SC lists them next to fencing, gates, decks, gazebos, pergolas, freestanding structures and porch screening. The Port Royal business, which covers Beaufort as well, says it was established in August 2020 and is family owned.
Docks, gazebos, garages and decks all show up in Google's categories for Remodelers Inc on Brams Point Road, Hilton Head Island, along with custom homes and kitchen and bath remodels. The listing has no service details beyond that.
Decks, siding, roofing and painting all fall under Herrera Construction, which works from Traders Cross in Okatie and covers Hardeeville too. The company says it has served the Hardeeville area for 10 years.

Roofing is one piece of the work at Your Exterior Pros, a Savannah company on Carolan Street that also lists a South Carolina office number. The site covers shingle, metal, flat, slate and tile roofs, commercial TPO and modified bitumen, roof coatings and tarping, along with siding, windows, doors, gutters, decks, porches, painting and exterior carpentry.
Door repairs of all kinds, ceiling fixes, grab bars, curtain rods and light fixtures are the jobs that keep showing up in reviews for Mr. Handyman of Greater Savannah and Hilton Head, along with courteous techs. The location works from Governor Treutlen Road in Pooler, Georgia, and its Google list goes further than most handymen: shower, tub and walk-in tub installs, bathroom remodels and drywall work, for homes and businesses.
Gutters get as much attention as fences at Bluffton Fence & Gutter Company, and most of the reviews are about its gutter installs, a responsive office and a quick, smooth job. The Bluffton company also builds aluminum, chain link, ornamental iron, pool and dog fences, deer fencing and ranch rail, installs and repairs automatic gates, and lists screen rooms and decks.
