Fences · the Lowcountry
Rules usually come before posts on a fence job. Many gated communities and HOAs set height, material and color, and some require design review before anything goes up. Wet ground, termites and salt air are hard on wood posts and steel hardware, and storms test every gate latch.
Ask what the posts are set in, what the hinges and fasteners are made of, and whether the company handles HOA approval or leaves it to you. Before clearing a fence line, check the tree rules before you cut.
Stainless or hot-dipped hardware costs a little more and lasts a lot longer near salt water. I've seen plenty of good boards hanging from rusted hinges. Find out what's holding the fence together, not just what it's made of.
